Sericanthe auriculata (Keay) Robbr.

A treelet to 8 m tall, the young branches puberulous. Leaves with a petiole 1-3 mm long, puberulous; lamina elliptic, sometimes almost obovate, often unequal at the base, cordate to auriculate, the apex long acuminate, 12-20 x 5-9 10 cm, glabrous, except on the nerves. Stipules triangular to broadly ovate, 3 mm high, puberulous outside. Inflorescences uniflores. Flowers 8-merous, pedicel 3 mm long; 2-4 mm high; calyx tubular, truncate, margin 8-toothed, 11 mm long, outer surface silky; corolla outer surface silky, 8-lobed, lobes 8-35 mm long and tube 9 mm long; ovary 3 mm long, outer surface silky; the placenta 3-5-ovulate, style glabrous, about 16 mm long, margin bilobate; filament about 0.5 mm long, anther basifix, 5 mm long. Fruit ellipsoid, orange, up to 6 cm high and 3 cm wide, crowned with persistent calyx; seeds 3-5 angular, 10 mm long, the placenta surrounded by an aril.
