Diagnostic description:
Large tree with a compact crown, trunk without buttress, but sometimes flared, and to 100 cm dbh, 30 m tall. Dioecious or polygamous, fruits large (c. 8 cm long) with large seeds (c. 6 cm long), animal-dispersed.
Global Distribution:
Upper and Lower Guinea to the Congo basin, from southern Senegal to W Cameroons and on to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola.
