SUMMARY
Tree 6-13.5 m tall, with the habit of a Neoboutonia (fide Eggeling); young stems pubescent with T-shaped and simple hairs. Leaves in a distal tuft, petiolate, elliptic to obovate, 10-90 cm long, 8-26 cm wide, base cuneate-attenuate, margins sinuate, apex acute, glabrous or nearly so above, densely tomentose beneath; petiole slightly expanded and semi-amplexicaul but exauriculate at the base, 2.5-7.5 cm long. Capitula very numerous, subsessile in very large erect terminal paniculoid thyrses up to about 100 cm long; involucre campanulate, 5-8 mm long; phyllaries 4-8-seriate, the outer and median short, ovate to lanceolate, obtuse, the inner much longer, oblong, obtuse, 4-7.5 mm long, becoming caducous. Florets 10-18 per capitulum; corolla white, 5-6 mm long, lobes 2 mm long, apically glabrous. Achenes 3.3-3.5 mm long, strongly 8-10-ribbed, glabrous; outer pappus of narrow scales 0.5-1.5 mm long, inner pappus white, 5.5-7 mm long.
