SUMMARY
Tree 8 – 20 m, dbh 15 – 35 (– 65 cm), bole often sloping or bent, cylindrical to irregular, usually with stem shoots, bark yellowish light brown, smooth but a little irregular, sometimes flaky. Stems moderately puberulous or pubescent, hairs c. 0.2 – 0.6 mm long. Bud scales up to 7, caducous, distichous, medium brown, coriaceous, not keeled, outer surface sparsely hairy, with scattered puberulous margins, inner surface glabrous, proximal scale orbicular, c. 2.5 mm diam., distal scales similar but becoming progressively longer and relatively narrower, outer surface becoming progressively more densely puberulous. Stipules (seen in young foliage) in pairs, free, auriculate at base, the auricle suborbicular, c. 5 × 3 mm, outer surface veins and margins sparsely pubescent; upper part of stipule narrowly lanceolate, 12 – 14 × 3 – 4 mm, outer surface sparsely hairy, inner surface glabrous, apex acute. Leaves alternate, paripinnate, 8.5 – 19.5 × 3.4 – 5.4 cm; petiole 3 – 7 mm, leaf rachis 7.4 – 19.2 cm long, sparsely to moderately pubescent (most densely so within the canal on the distal two-thirds of the rachis, becoming almost glabrous in the proximal third), leaflets sessile, in 16 – 22 pairs, upper and middle leaflets opposite, lower pairs subopposite or opposite, 22 – 35 × 5 – 9 mm, narrowly oblong, base asymmetric, proximal margin tapering towards apex, glabrous above except for pubescent midvein on young leaflets, lower surface minutely appressed puberulous, fringing hairs 0.5 – 1 mm long, particularly on the lower margins of young leaflets but scattered or absent in mature foliage, midvein central, prominent above and below for most of its length, becoming obscure just before the apex, small glands 1 – 4, not visible with a hand lens but visible under a microscope, present on distal part of the lower surface, positioned about midway between the midvein and the margin, seen on all but the upper two pairs of leaflets. Inflorescence a c. 10 – 30-flowered raceme, axis 5.4 – 7. 7 cm long including a peduncle 2 – 7 mm long, moderately covered with pale patent hairs c. 1 mm long; floral bracts narrowly oblong, c. 8 × 2 mm, glabrous on both surfaces, caducous; pedicels sparse to moderate spreading pubescence, hairs c. 0.5 mm long, portion of pedicel below bracteoles 8 – 13 mm long; bracteoles subopposite, elliptic to ovate, 5 – 7 × 3 – 4 mm, glabrous, apex rounded; portion of pedicel above bracteoles 3 – 4 mm long. Hypanthium narrowly campanulate, c. 2 mm deep, sparsely long pubescent hairs 0.75 – 1 mm long on outer surface, inner surface glabrous. Sepals 4, white, opening only slightly, concave, broadly ovate, outer surface longpubescent on basal half to two thirds, glabrescent towards margins and on apical third, inner surface glabrous, adaxial sepal c. 4 – 5 × 4 mm, apex rounded and shallowly emarginate; with a tuft of hairs either side of the sinus, lateral and abaxial sepals 4 – 5 × 3 mm, apex rounded with tuft of hairs. Petals absent. Stamens usually 10, filaments free, 7 – 8 mm long, glabrous, anthers oblong-elliptic, c. 1.5 mm long, reddish. Ovary 2 – 3 mm long, densely pale golden sericeous, on a stipe 1 – 1.5 mm long, fused to the adaxial side of the hypanthium, free part of stipe very short, ovules 2, style 4 – 6 mm long, moderately pubescent on lower third becoming glabrous above, stigma capitate. Pod compressed, triangular, broadest towards apex, 6.8 – 9.6 × 3.5 – 4.6 cm, upper suture slightly broadened, 2 – 3 mm wide; surfaces and suture glabrous. Seeds unknown. Seedling: first pair of leaves opposite, leaves 8 – 10.5 × 4– 4.3 cm, leaflets in 10 – 11 pairs, 22 – 25 × 8 – 9 mm.
